Gee was designated for assignment by the Rangers on Friday.

The Rangers needed to clear a 40-man roster spot for Friday's starter Tyson Ross (shoulder), and Gee ultimately was the odd man out. The 31-year-old right-hander was a middling swingman during his time in the big leagues this season, producing a 4.15 ERA and a 1.77 WHIP. He has plenty of major-league experience, so there's a good chance that he could attract some interest from other teams while he's exposed to waivers.
