Carpenter signed a minor league contract with the Rays on Friday that includes an invite to big league camp, the Tampa Bay Tribune's Roger Mooney reports.

Carpenter, who was waived March 5 by the Braves, reported to camp Friday and will get to work on trying to earn a roster spot with the Rays. This is his sixth team since debuting in 2011, and while he could offer a veteran presence in the middle of the Rays' bullpen, he doesn't have the stuff to compete with the team's back-end arms for high-leverage opportunities.
