Red Sox's Carson Smith: Probably won't need surgery

Red Sox manager John Farrell said Friday he would be surprised if Smith (forearm) needs surgery, the Boston Globe's Alex Speier reports.

He had an MRI Friday after landing on the 15-day DL, but the results have not yet been announced. Farrell said the symptoms do not indicate surgery will be necessary, but of course that could change in a hurry. Regardless, he should be considered out indefinitely.
