Baez was optioned to High-A Lakeland on Monday.
The Tigers protected the 23-year-old from the Rule 5 draft this offseason after he compiled a 3.81 ERA and 1.35 WHIP in 113.1 innings for Low-A West Michigan in 2016, but he's still a long ways off from making an impact for the big club. The organization figures to continue developing him as a starter as he moves up another rung on the minor-league ladder.
