Jackson won't require surgery to address the tendinitis in his left knee, but could miss upwards of six-to-eight weeks, Rod Beard of The Detroit News reports. "[Jackson's] going to be out for a while," Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy said Wednesday. "We don't know how long, and that'll all be determined by what he chooses to do."

It was reported earlier Wednesday that Jackson could be forced to miss an extended period of time due to the existing knee tendinitis, an issue that he's played through for much of his professional career. While it was determined that Jackson would be able to avoid a lengthier setback by skipping out on surgery, Van Gundy confirmed that the point guard would still be forced to the sideline for the start of the regular season. With Jackson out of commission, Ish Smith, who served as the 76ers' primary starter at point guard last season, will now enter the top unit for his new team. The Pistons are expected to determine a course of treatment for Jackson within the next few days, after which a clearer timetable could be solidified.
