Meriweather (knee) has been released by the Giants on Wednesday, NJ.com reports.

The Giants parted ways with the eight-year veteran on Wednesday in order to make room for the signing of defensive lineman Barry Cofield. Meriweather was signed during training camp and started in 11 games before going down with a knee injury. He has 53 tackles and two interceptions on the season. Meriweather could find his way onto a roster in need of secondary depth.
