Charles (knee) was removed from the PUP list and participated in the individual portion of Tuesday's practice, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.

Charles has already missed more than half of training camp and may not play at all during the preseason, but he still intends to be ready for Week 1 when the games count. Now that he's back on the practice field, the next step is to progress from individual to team work, which should happen within the next couple weeks. Charles is still expected to serve as Kansas City's feature back, though the presence of Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West (elbow) could allow the Chiefs to ease up on the 29-year-old's workload in comparison to the past few seasons.
