The Giants waived 2012 first-round pick David Wilson, the explosive back out of Virginia Tech who spent last season on injured reserve following a career-ending neck injury.

Wilson hurt his neck in the fifth game of his second season and went on IR a month later. While participating in training camp last year, Wilson suffered a burner that caused numbness in his hands and lower extremities. Doctors determined he should no longer play football.

His career ended at age 23 after 21 games.

As a rookie, Wilson set Giants records with 1,533 kickoff return yards and 1,925 all-purpose yards. He racked up a franchise-record 327 all-purpose yards, including 100 yards rushing, in a win over New Orleans that year.
