The Jets placed Smith (knee) on the active/PUP list Thursday, Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports.
Smith had torn his ACL last December and was not expected to be ready for the start of training camp. The team has yet to detail any sort of timeline for his return, but he is considered doubtful to play come Week 1. Entering his second season in the league, the Ohio State product is expected to assume a larger role on offense in 2016 due to his open-field speed and ability to stretch the field in the passing game.
