Lovie Smith has praised Buccaneers defensive end Jacquies Smith for his emergence as a productive player in recent weeks.

The undrafted free agent, who was cut by Buffalo after Week 1 and has served a stint in the Canadian Football League, has gone from practice squad member to key player in the rotation. He has three sacks in the last three games, including two Sunday against Washington. Smith claims the result should be increased playing time.

"We tell the players always, 'If you get in a few plays and you're productive with those, you'll get more,'" Smith told ESPN. "Kind of simple as that. He has continued to get more plays based on his play. He's come a long way from being cut by the Bills and coming down here and now really being a factor. So it's safe to say that, yes."
