Ellerbe is a candidate to be released or take a pay cut this offseason, according to Mike Triplett of ESPN.com. In six games this year, Ellerbe made 39 tackles (34 solo).

A toe injury suffered in the preseason cost Ellerbe the first month of the year and he missed another month and a half later in the season with a nagging hip injury. In between injuries, Ellerbe, who was acquired by New Orleans in a trade last offseason, showed flashes of brilliance, including a 13-tackle performance against Atlanta in Week 6. If Ellerbe is willing to restructure his contract and, perhaps more importantly, stay healthy, he could be an IDP asset as a starting outside linebacker for the Saints.
