Life after Jamaal Charles begins in Kansas City with Thomas Jones and Dexter McCluster taking over as the primary weapons in the Chiefs' run game. Jones is a long-standing NFL veteran who is more bruiser than anything else, while McCluster is the prototypical complementary option behind him: Small, shifty and speedy.

The Chiefs go to battle this week against the Chargers in San Diego. It's not a good matchup at all for Kansas City but at the very least they'll have to throw the ball a good amount. That alone favors McCluster over Jones, as does his speed. McCluster is no Charles, but even he sees the 6.2 yards per carry average Charles has had against the Chargers over his last five games and has to get excited. Neither Chiefs running back is ideal for Week 3, but if you had to pick one, McCluster is the better replacement, even if it means having to turn your roster around to get him into lineups because of his rare position eligibility.

Editor's Note: CBSSports.com lists McCluster as a wide receiver as per our procedural rules in accordance with how NFL teams categorize their players.
