The Islanders recalled Helgeson from AHL Bridgeport on Tuesday.
Helgeson will provide the Isles with a seventh healthy defenseman while Nick Leddy tends to a lower-body injury ahead of Tuesday's game against the Senators. The 29-year-old hasn't made an appearance at the NHL level since the 2016-17 season.
