The Angels will give Dan Haren an extended period of rest before starting him Saturday, Aug. 25, according to MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez.

Haren has allowed 10 earned runs in seven innings over his last two starts while facing the Rays and Mariners .

A four-man rotation is a possibility for the Angels in September if Haren doesn't improve his performance. Haren is 8-10 with a 4.90 ERA and 1.39 WHIP in 22 starts this season.

The Angels activated reliever Scott Downs from the disabled list in time for Saturday's game against the Rays. Downs is 1-1 with nine saves, a 2.57 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP this season.
