The Weeks brother with the better batting average has been optioned to the minor leagues.

Oakland optioned Jemile Weeks to Triple-A in order to make room for outfielder Seth Smith, who was activated from the disabled list, the team announced. Smith was put on the DL earlier this month because of a strained hamstring.

Weeks, 25, was hitting just .220/.305/.302 with two home runs and 15 stolen bases this season. As a rookie in 2011, Weeks hit .303/.340/.421.

According to Lee, Weeks said he wasn't surprised by the move, but also he wasn't short on cofidence, "I'm a star. Period," Weeks told MLB.com's Jane Lee.

Oakland is starting Adam Rosales at second base for Tuesday's game against the Twins. Newly acquired shortstop Stephen Drew is also in the lineup, batting second, while Smith will DH.

Oakland's Weeks is the younger brother of Milwaukee's Rickie Weeks, who is also having a disappointing season. Rickie Weeks is hitting .322/.402/.556 over his last 25 games, bringing him up to the lofty status of a .218/.325/.380 hitter.
