The Braves optioned right-hander Jair Jurrjens to Triple-A Gwinnett after Monday's loss to the Dodgers that saw his ERA rise to 9.37 after four starts.
Jurrjens lasted just three innings, allowing nine hits and five runs. He also walked a batter and failed to strike out a batter. So far this season he'd allowed 17 runs in just 16 1/3 innings and hadn't pitched more than five innings, getting pulled in the fourth on Tuesday. He pitched into the sixth inning just once, in his second outing of the season on April 13 against the Brewers. He gave up five runs in that outing, as well.
"He is not having any health or injury issues, just needs to get back on track pitching-wise," Braves general manager Frank Wren texted David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
An All-Star a season ago, Jurrjens is 1-5 with a 6.87 in 11 starts since last year's All-Star break. He was 12-3 with a 1.87 ERA in 16 starts before the break, easily earning a nod for the game.
Tim Hudson will be activated from the disabled list later this week or early next week to take Jurrjens' spot in the rotation, while rookie Randall Delgado will stay in the rotation. Delgado, 22, is 2-1 with a 5.74 ERA in three starts.
