The Mets have traded Omar Quintanilla and Geoff Blum has been released by the Diamondbacks.

  • Mets infielder Omar Quintanilla has been traded to the Orioles for cash considerations, according to ESPNNewYork.com's Adam Rubin. The 30-year-old infielder was designated for assignment by the Mets on Tuesday. Quintanilla has appeared primarily as a shortstop this season, but has also been used as a second baseman. He also has some experience at third base. Quintanilla is hitting .257/.350/.371 this season. 
  • The Diamondbacks will release infielder Geoff Blum, according to a tweet sent out by Blum. Blum signed a two-year, $2.7 million deal with the Diamondbacks in 2011. Blum, 39, is hitting just .143/.194/.143 in 31 plate appearances this season.
