Orioles starter Zach Britton has been optioned to Triple-A following his eight-inning, 10-strikeout gem against the White Sox on Friday, the club announced.

Britton will be able to return to the majors before his next scheduled start Sept. 4 thanks to the impending end of the minor league season. The move is made to open up a roster spot for Randy Wolf prior to the weekend series coming up against the Yankees. The Orioles have been lacking for left-handed pitching since an ankle injury sidelined Troy Patton Aug. 13.

Although Britton (4.80 ERA, 4.32 FIP) won't be on the major-league roster when playoff eligibility is set Aug. 31, he will be eligibile to replace any pitcher on the disabled list should the Orioles reach the postseason.
