The Orioles have signed former All-Star closer Heath Bell to a minor league contract, the team announced. He will report to Triple-A.

Bell, 36, was designated for assignment and released by the Rays two weeks ago. He had a 7.27 ERA with a 1.85 WHIP in 17 1/3 innings for Tampa after being acquired from the Diamondbacks in an offseason trade.

The Rays still owe Bell $4.5 million for the remainder of the season. The D-Backs owe him $4 million and the Marlins owe him $500,000. If he gets called up by Baltimore, Bell will receive paychecks from four different teams this year.

Since signing his three-year, $27 million contract with the Marlins during the 2011-12 offseason, Bell has a 4.91 ERA and 1.51 WHIP in 146 2/3 innings.
