Golden State Warriors' power forward David Lee injured his hip flexor during the opening round of the playoffs and was supposed to be out for the duration of the postseason. During Game 1 against the Denver Nuggets, Lee felt a pop in his hip when he landed hard after being fouled by JaVale McGee on a drive to the basket. The Warriors said he had a torn hip flexor and it was assumed he'd be out for the rest of the playoffs.
Five games later, David Lee checked into Game 6 for the Warriors and played for about a minute-and-a-half. He would play in limited minutes four more times against the San Antonio Spurs in the second round of the playoffs before his season was over.
Thursday, Lee posted on his Instagram account that he had a successful surgery and was ready to get on the road to recovery. The Warriors have released a statement on his surgery:
Golden State Warriors forward David Lee underwent successful surgery this morning to address a torn right hip flexor, the team announced. Following the procedure, which was performed by Dr. William Meyers at the Vincera Institute in Philadelphia, Lee is expected to begin rehabilitation in the next 10-14 days.
Lee was an important member of the Warriors this season, earning the second NBA All-Star Game bid of his career and earning All-NBA third-team honors. It was the first time in his career he had been named to an All-NBA team. Lee averaged 18.5 points, 11.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists while making 51.9 percent of his shots. He played in just six playoff games, averaging 5.0 points and 4.7 rebounds in just 10.8 minutes.
