05/23/13TEJames CaseyKnee USA Today reports that Eagles tight end James Casey will undergo arthroscopic surgery to clean out loose cartilage his right knee and will be out of action for the rest of the spring. A team spokesman said Casey should be ready to go by the start of training camp. Casey signed a three-year deal with $14.5 million as one of the first additions for the Eagles in a busy opening few days in free agency. The former Texans fullback/tight end is expected to play a key role in coach Chip Kelly's offense. (Updated 05/23/2013)
02/08/13DLTrent ColeHand Eagles defender Trent Cole told PhillyMag.com that he played last year with a broken bone and torn tendons in his right hand. He had surgery for it during the offseason and should be fine for the start of training camp. As for where Cole will play in 2013, that's still up for debate. The pass rusher has been a lineman but could move to linebacker in Chip Kelly's new 3-4 scheme. He's lost 10 pounds and has been dropping into coverage, something he didn't do a lot of as a lineman. "We don’t know where we’re going to be at right now," said Cole. (Updated 04/18/2013)
02/07/13QBNick FolesHand Though Nick Foles did see some time with the first-team offense in minicamp practice Monday, Michael Vick still got the first rep and seemingly had at least a few more snaps. Head coach Chip Kelly downplayed the reps suggesting both quarterbacks were even in the race to start. (Updated 05/14/2013)
01/25/13WRDeSean JacksonRibs DeSean Jackson took umbrage to working with the second- and third-team offenses in Eagles spring workouts according to Philadelphia Magazine, even going straight to new coach Chip Kelly to ask why he was working with backups. But the two sorted the situation out and now Jackson is moving forward in lockstep with Kelly. "I think one of the biggest reasons was the offense was kind of new to myself and I never really had to learn every position in the offense [under Andy Reid]," said Jackson. "At the beginning of the process I didn't know the full offense and I didn't know every play, so that probably had to do with why I was moved to different teams and things like that. Now I am all-in on the offense and I’m very familiar with the whole system. It’s a good thing that I am able to learn that and know what everyone is doing instead of one person." (Updated 06/04/2013)
