08/22/16DLRobert NkemdicheAnklePROBABLENkemdiche (ankle) is expected to play in Sunday's preseason game against the Texans, the Cardinals official website reports.

Head coach Bruce Arians said Nkemdiche could get extensive playing time to make up for his absence through training camp and the first two weeks of the preseason. The first-round rookie has probably missed out on any shot he might have had to push for a starting job, but he still has time to earn a key role in Arizona's d-line rotation.

08/20/16WRLarry FitzgeraldKneePROBABLEFitzgerald (knee) wasn't expected to practice Thursday but was seen in pads prior to drills, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports.

Fitzgerald may have been able to change the mind of head coach Bruce Arians, who has been the driving force behind holding out the wide receiver as he tends to a slight MCL sprain. Individual drills would be a good start Thursday, but there's no need for Fitzgerald to push his luck with more than two weeks remaining before the regular season opener.

08/20/16LBAlex OkaforArmQUESTIONABLEOkafor has opted to avoid surgery and play with a torn biceps, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Okafor sustained the injury in Tuesday's practice, the second such torn biceps in his three-year career. In 2013, surgery was ordered up for the then rookie, but examinations may have revealed that the tear was less severe than three seasons ago. The pass rusher has totaled 10 sacks the past two campaigns, while logging 66 and 58.5 percent of the defensive snaps, but the addition of Chandler Jones along with the injury could very well result in a scaled-back role.

08/01/16WRJohn BrownHeadPROBABLEBrown (concussion) was removed from practice early Thursday, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports.

One day removed from missing practice due to a headache, Brown took the field Thursday in a no-contact yellow jersey, as he did both Sunday and Monday of this week. While his early departure may have been planned, the fact that his symptoms can be traced to a concussion doesn't bode well for immediate clearance from the NFL's protocol for head injuries.

07/30/16DLRed BryantAchillesQUESTIONABLEBryant (Achilles) returned to practice Monday, Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic reports.

Discomfort in Bryant's Achilles forced back-to-back absences over the weekend, but his presence Monday allowed him to resume his quest for a reserve spot along the Cardinals' defensive front.

07/30/16DBMike JenkinsHandQUESTIONABLEJenkins (hand) returned to practice on Sunday, Mike Jurecki of Fox Sports 910 reports.

Jenkins had surgery for a broken hand at the start of August. He was expected to miss anywhere from 2-to-3 weeks, so his return Sunday appears to be on the early side of that original projection. Jenkins will have to battle for a role as a depth option at cornerback for the upcoming season.

08/05/16LBAndrew GachkarThumbDOUBTFULGachkar (thumb) is back with the team following thumb surgery, Rob Phillips of Dallas Cowboys.com reports.

The 27-year-old line backer had surgery done on his thumb Friday, and is currently without a timetable of return. Head coach Jason Garret indicated he will be out "a little while". He is currently doing conditioning work with the team.

08/03/16RBEzekiel ElliottHamstringPROBABLEThe NFL will apparently not further investigate Elliott's visit to a marijuana dispensary prior to Thursday's preseason game in Seattle, ESPN's Ed Werder reports.

Marijuana is legal in Washington state, so the rookie apparently stopped into a dispensary to look around Wednesday night without making any purchases. Cowboys owner/GM Jerry Jones said the visit "wasn't good", but Elliott apparently won't receive anything other than a tongue-lashing from his boss over the incident. Given the league's (arguably archaic) stance on pot use and the fact that three of Elliott's teammates are currently suspended for violations of the NFL's drag policy though, he's now likely on their radar for further scrutiny at the very least.

08/03/16QBKellen MooreAnkleDOUBTFULMoore, who suffered a broken left ankle Tuesday, is expected to miss three to four months, NFL.com reports.

Moore is slated to undergo surgery Wednesday to address the issue, which for the moment leaves Dak Prescott and Jameill Showers -- a pair of inexperienced signal-callers -- as the team's backup options behind starting QB Tony Romo.

08/01/16DLTyrone CrawfordBackPROBABLECrawford (concussion) won't play in Thursday's preseason game against the Seahawks, The Dallas Morning News reports.

He suffered the concussion during Sunday's practice and given how thin their defensive line is, the Cowboys will take no chances with Crawford prior to Week 1.

07/30/16TEGavin EscobarAchillesQUESTIONABLEEscobar (Achilles) did not practice on Sunday, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.

Escobar will get the day off as he continues to nurse a torn Achilles he suffered last season. If he continues to miss practice time he may be in danger of missing the Cowboys' first preseason matchup against the Rams next Saturday.

07/29/16RBDarren McFaddenElbowNFIMcFadden (elbow) has no timetable for a return to practice, Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News reports. "I'm just working, strengthening it and getting everything back together," McFadden said Sunday.

Although a recent bone scan yielded positive results, a broken elbow is not to be trifled with. As a result, rest and rehabilitation will dominate McFadden's upcoming schedule, with an unfortunate consequence that he won't be able to stake a claim to the top backup running back job to Ezekiel Elliott. As long as McFadden is sidelined, free-agent pickup Alfred Morris is the favorite to hold down the fort behind Elliott.

07/29/16LBDamien WilsonUndisclosedNFIWilson (eye) was activated off of the Cowboys' NFI list and participated in Monday's practice, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports

Dallas' fourth-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, Wilson was hit in the eye while playing paintball in late July, but no long-term impairments are expected to manifest. Nonetheless, Wilson earned glowing reports from the Cowboys' coaching staff throughout the team's offseason program and appears headed for a backup role in 2016 behind the likes of Sean Lee and Kyle Wilber.

07/28/16LBJaylon SmithKneeNFISmith (knee) was placed on the PUP list Friday, Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News reports.

Smith continues to deal with nerve damage to his left knee, which was an unfortunate side effect of tearing his ACL and MCL in the Fiesta Bowl with Notre Dame on Jan. 1. However, the nature of the injury didn't stop the Cowboys from using a second-round pick on the linebacker during the 2016 NFL Draft. Afterward, executive vice president Stephen Jones acknowledged that he may not play this season, but owner/GM Jerry Jones later wouldn't shut the door on Smith achieving active status late in the season or during the playoffs, if the Cowboys were to earn a berth. In any case, Smith is likely destined for the IR/designated-to-return list to start the season due to his boss' perceived hope.

07/01/16DLDemarcus LawrenceSuspensionSUSPENDLawrence's four-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy has been upheld, Todd Archer of ESPN reports.

Lawrence received the four-game suspension back in April and filed an appeal in May. Now that the suspension has been upheld it's clear that Dallas will be without Lawrence, Randy Gregory (suspension), and Rolando McClain (suspension) to start the year, three significant players on the team's front seven. With Lawrence out, Ryan Russell, David Irving, and Benson Mayowa figure to see some extra snaps to start the year.
