The Buffalo Bills will have one short workout that is closed to the public on Wednesday, but training camp unofficially broke Tuesday night after the team’s final open practice session.

Buffalo began camp with high expectations, and those expectations have only risen over the past three weeks.

“My first training camp here was ’05," said SS George Wilson. "Just seeing where we were as an organization and as a team in the past and to see where we are now, I really think this is the most productive camp we’ve had as a team overall.”

Wilson said it's been a different mentality since the first day of the offseason program. But he acknowledges talk about the direction the team is headed will not resonate with the fans and media until the Bills perform on the field.

“Camp was good,” coach Chan Gailey said. “I really think we accomplished a great deal. We were able to evaluate a lot of players, I think our players got better during this time.”

What stood out: Not a whole lot stood out at Buffalo’s final public session. WR Marcus Easley had a nice 40-yard catch down the left sideline in 7-on-7 work. Stephon Gilmore also had his hands on the ball in what appeared to be joint possession, which would go to the receiver. ... Ryan Fitzpatrick had a nice rollout throw to Donald Jones. ... The offensive line struggled in one-on-one drills early in the evening. ... DE Shawne Merriman, who returned after missing Monday’s practice, looked extremely quick in the same drill. ... Dwan Edwards continued his strong week of play and moved up the field well.

Wildcat work: The Bills had their most extended wildcat work of camp on Tuesday with QB/WR Brad Smith. Unlike last season, the Bills had a whole offseason to help get Smith acclimated to their scheme and believe it’s paid off. “We’re a lot further along with how to use him and what we’re going to try to do with him,” Gailey said. “I think we’ve got a chance to have a great little package with him. It’s going to be good for us, I believe.”

Injury update: DT Kellen Heard left practice with a right leg injury and was taken for X-rays. OL James Carmon suffered what is believed to be a wrist injury and will also receive X-rays. CB Justin Rogers (hamstring), S Josh Nesbitt (undisclosed), DE Robert Eddins (undisclosed), TE Mike Caussin (knee) and TE Kevin Brock (shoulder) did not participate.

What’s next: The Bills have a closed practice Wednesday morning at St. John Fisher before Friday’s preseason game at Minnesota .
