What matters: Not a lot. It's tough to find motivation for the Chiefs at this point. Their fans are frustrated and are either not attending games, or showing up with paper bags on their heads or signs that call for the general manager to be fired. Last week, many dressed in black. The team is 0-5 at home and four of those five losses have come by double-digits. They've lost nine of 10 at Arrowhead going back to last season. With Peyton Manning coming to town and Brady Quinn starting at quarterback for Kansas City, it's tough to envision the game playing out any differently than any other home game thus far.
Who matters: Quinn. For the Chiefs to win another game, they're going to need one of their quarterbacks to have a productive game. Quinn gets the call this week. It's not like he's any more deserving than Matt Cassel, but Cassel struggled last week so it's Quinn's turn. In four games played so far this season, Quinn has a 52.9 QB rating, which is worse than any of his three seasons in Cleveland.
Key matchups: RT Eric Winston vs. OLB Von Miller. The Chiefs shifted their line around last week because of injuries and Winston spent some time at right guard. Three starters are questionable heading into the game, so Winston could be back at guard with rookie Donald Stephenson back at right tackle. The Chiefs better hope Winston, who is one of their best pass blockers, is at tackle because Denver OLB Von Miller would be a tough matchup for Stephenson. Miller is third in the NFL with 13 sacks and the best pass rusher the Chiefs have faced this season. Dwayne Bowe vs. Champ Bailey. Bowe has only caught four passes for 41 yards from Quinn, who has targeted Bowe 12 times. Bowe leads the team with 49 catches and is the only Kansas City receiver with more than one touchdown. Quinn needs to figure out how to get Bowe involved, and that's not going to be easy if Bailey is checking him.
Injuries of note: Romeo Crennel said that LT Branden Albert (back) and RG/C Ryan Lilja (knee) would attempt to practice on Friday and both are questionable for Sunday's game. LG Jon Asamoah is coming off thumb surgery and will play if he is able to have contact without a "flair up," Crennel said. Crennel said he expects both WR Jon Baldwin (head) and WR Dwayne Bowe (neck) to play.
Inside stuff: The Chiefs' offensive line has been a strength this year but it does not have good depth. If any of the starters are not able to play, the backups could struggle.
Connections: Both Quinn (2010-11) and RB Peyton Hillis (2008-09) spent two seasons in Denver. Kansas City OG Russ Hochstein played three seasons (2009-11) for the Broncos.
Stat you should know: The Chiefs and Broncos lead the league in fumbles lost this season. The Chiefs have had bad luck when it comes to fumbles, a trend that has changed the last two weeks. They lost 15 of their first 19 fumbles this season and have only lost one of their last four.
Prediction: Broncos 38, Chiefs 9
