The 49ers and Rams were interested in hiring Rob Chudzinski as their offensive coordinator, but on Tuesday the Colts extended Chudzinski's contract and gave him the new title of associate head coach, reports CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora.

"We're excited to keep Chud in our family," coach Chuck Pagano said, via NFL.com. "He's been a critical part of our operation and we're looking forward to sharing even more success in the future."

The Colts had denied other teams permission to interview Chudzinski, a bright offensive mind who was the Panthers' offensive coordinator from 2011-12. He joined Indy in 2014, serving as special assistant to the head coach.
