With injuries taking their toll at guard, the Cowboys are going with the familiar by bringing in three players who were on the roster in 2011.

The most notable of the trio of guards is veteran Montrae Holland, an unrestricted free agent who started 11 games last season. The Cowboys are also taking a look at Derrick Dockery, who started two games at guard, and Daniel Loper, who was on and off the roster last season but never played in a game.

Considering the injury concerns at guard, it’s likely the club will sign one of the three, possibly two. Not only is Mackenzy Bernadeau likely out two more weeks with a hip injury, but Bill Nagy (high-ankle sprain) could miss three to four weeks, and Kevin Kowalski has a nagging ankle injury that requires a knee-high cast.

If that’s not enough, starting LG Nate Livings suffered a hyperextended knee and could miss a few days.

If Holland were to re-sign, technically it would be the fourth time he would join the Cowboys. Last year, the club brought Holland in off the street and he started 11 straight games.

But like Dockery, Holland was not re-signed by the Cowboys in the offseason.
