The Jets came in confident. They had two weeks to prepare, including their bye week, and said they had made tweaks and changes to put them on a positive course going forward. But against the Seahawks, they came out flat. Now, at 3-6, their playoff hopes remain on life support, at best.
Offense: F
The offense was shut out, unable to put up any points against the Seattle defense. For the fourth time this year, QB Mark Sanchez threw an interception in the red zone. TE Dustin Keller was uncharacteristically penalized twice for false starts and had a drop. QB Tim Tebow was more involved, but produced no results. Previous game’s grade: D
Defense: B+
The defense scored the Jets' only points when DL Muhammad Wilkerson recovered and scored off a fumble. DE Mike DeVito was all over the field. They contained Seattle RB Marshawn Lynch in the first half and held the Seahawks to just two touchdowns in the first half and no points in the third quarter. By the fourth quarter they were noticeably fatigued. Previous game’s grade C
Special teams: C
It wasn’t quite as bad as the game against Miami, but WR Jeremy Kerley muffed a punt, which resulted in a Seattle score on its next offensive series, and K Nick Folk inexplicably kicked a ball out of bounds. P Robert Malone had decent day, punting seven times, four inside the 20-yard line. Previous game’s grade: F
Coaching: D-
The coaches spent a lot of time self-scouting during the bye week and talked about how well the team practiced all week. So, what happened? With the exception of an improved run defense, it’s still not working. Previous game’s grade: F
