Lions nickel cornerback Cassius Vaughn is hoping to return to action Sunday against Buffalo after missing two games with an ankle injury. But he realizes his hopes might conflict with reality.

Vaughn has made progress since suffering the injury on Sept. 17. But he might be deemed unready to play and might also no longer have a defined role, according to the Detroit Free Press.

"I'm trying to sweet talk them and see (if I can play this week)," Vaughn said. "I know the coaching staff believes in me and I know we're trying to get back, but when we're on a run like this and you're seeing the team doing so well, you just want to be a part of it."

Vaughn assumed the nickel role early in Week 2 after rookie Nevin Lawson sustained a season-ending injury. Vaughn was slated for slot duty against Green Bay the next week, but sprained his ankle in practice and has been sidelined since.
