The Giants and Eagles were eliminated from playoff contention over the weekend, so it would seem their Week 17 game in New York would be meaningless.

However, that's not the case.

Thanks to a quirk in the NFL's 2016 schedule, the loser of Sunday's game will get a free trip to London next season. You read that right, this Sunday's game between the Giants and Eagles will be the NFL's first-ever, "Loser goes to London."

Here's how that happened: When the NFL announced the three games that would be played in London next year, they left one of the games up in the air.

The Colts know they'll play the Jaguars in Week 4. The Bengals know they'll play the Redskins in Week 8. However, the Rams weren't told who they'd be playing, only that it would be an NFC East team and the game would take place in Week 7.

The Rams are scheduled to play the NFC East team that finishes in the same spot as St. Louis in the NFC West. Since the Rams will finish the 2015 season as the third place team in the NFC West, that means, for the London game, the Rams will play the team that finishes third in the NFC East.

That team will be Sunday's Giants-Eagles loser.

The NFL didn't do this on purpose, but maybe they should have.

The WWE/WWF used to hold a "Loser Leaves Town" match every so often and they were very popular.

Talk about adding some excitement to a game with zero playoff implications. Maybe the NFL should've flexed Giants-Eagles to Sunday night.
