As CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora wrote Monday, many of the fifth-year options of the draft class of 2011 will be picked up without much thought.
That includes Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan, whose option has been exercised, CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora confirms. The news was first reported by the New Orleans Times Picayune.
That means Jordan, the No. 24 overall pick in 2011, will make about $7 million for the 2015 season after earning $7.731 million for the first four years of his career.
Considering Jordan is coming off the best season of his career, where he recorded 12.5 sacks in 2013 and ranked as the fourth-best 3-4 scheme defensive end in the league according to Pro Football Focus, this move by New Orleans is anything but a surprise.
Here's what La Canfora had to say about Jordan: "He has come into his own after a difficult rookie season and he represents the team's primary pass-rushing thrust. He is integral to what Rob Ryan is trying to do on defense and a player the Saints can't risk losing."
The Saints also could exercise their fifth-year option on No. 28 overall pick Mark Ingram. For the record, JLC thinks New Orleans also will pick up his option.
