The hot talk around the NFL these days is Andre Johnson's status with the Houston Texans. He's quite clearly unhappy in Houston -- he's made it known publicly -- and everyone wants to find a fit for a potential trading partner.
According to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, such exercises are futile. McClain believes/reports Johnson's only two options this season are to play or to sit out, as the Texans won't be trading the wideout.
"Johnson, one of the best receivers in NFL history, will not be traded for several reasons," McClain writes. "The Texans want him to finish his career in Houston. They know they are a better team with him. And they don't want to set a precedent for similar situations that might develop in the future."
McClain added in a Chron video that he "I'll guarantee" Johnson would be "in that first week [of training camp]" and wouldn't be traded.
Dealing Johnson doesn't make a ton of sense for the Texans, really. He's a high-end talent and they need him with the lack of experience at quarterback. DeAndre Hopkins will be good but he can't sit on an island by himself. With Arian Foster healthy and J.J. Watt/Jadeveon Clowney on defense, the Texans should be better than people expect.
But who knows. Someone could bowl the Texans over.
McClain is as plugged-in with the Texans as anyone. We would, however, caution him on guaranteeing anything. It can backfire.
