Patriots wideout Julian Edelman turned in a fine game during Super Bowl 49, catching what would wind up being the game-winning touchdown.
But there's some question as to whether he should have been out on the field for that play. During the fourth quarter, Edelman took a big hit from Kam Chancellor near midfield. Edelman remained in the game, though seemed disoriented shortly after the play. A few plays later, Edelman had a tough time getting up after an incomplete pass.
While most players would have had to pass a concussion test in order to get back into the contest, it's unclear whether Edelman was subject to the normal protocol. Following the game, Edelman would not say whether he took a concussion test on the sideline. When asked, Edelman responded, "we're not allowed to talk about injuries."
It's unclear whether a test actually took place. One report said Edelman did receive a concussion test, while another said he did not, according to the Mercury News. Reporters attending the game said they could hear independent doctors calling for Edelman to be tested during the contest.

Edelman performed his normal postgame duties, and was available to the media following the game. Edelman was diagnosed with a concussion earlier in the season, and missed the team's final two regular season games due to the injury.
Earlier this week, the NFL announced concussions were down 25 percent this season. It's unclear whether the league will look into whether the Patriots handled the situation properly.
