Days after quarterback Brian Hoyer was named the Texans' starter by coach Bill O'Brien, his competition for the job, Ryan Mallett, reportedly overslept for practice. Mallett showed up later for meetings Thursday, according to the Houston Chronicle, and is expected back at practice Friday.

Not surprisingly, O'Brien wasn't happy about the development but offered little when asked about it.

"That's between Ryan and I," he said. "It's just a personal issue for him."

When O'Brien announced Hoyer as the starter, he said all three quarterbacks -- including third-teamer Tom Savage -- would see the field against the Saints in this week's preseason game. That remains the case ... for now.

"That's what our thought is right now on Thursday," O'Brien said, "but there's three days until Sunday, so I reserve the right to change my mind."

If Mallett sleeping at work sounds familiar, it's because he was shown napping under some team jerseys on the most recent episode of Hard Knocks.

Of course, J.J. Watt has been known to nap at work too -- he even has his own bed -- but he also admits to a) setting an alarm and b) having one of the equipment guys wake him up before practice. Frankly, we're shocked that the NFL's Chuck Norris even uses an alarm clock.
