On the second-to-last-play of the scrimmage on Saturday night, WR Greg Childs went up for a pass near the endzone and came down hard. The training staff appeared to be looking at both knees before he was carted off the field. Coach Leslie Frazier did not know the extent of the injury, and said he would present any information as soon as he would get it. Childs missed a season at Arkansas with an injured patella (knee).

“You hate to see any player go down for any reason, and Greg has struggled with injuries, as we know, in college,” said Frazier. “Hopefully things will work out and it is nothing serious”

Peterson headed to court: Frazier said that RB Adrian Peterson would not be at practice Monday because he is due in court for an incident in a Houston bar that occurred shortly before training camp started. Frazier said that Peterson would attend court unless something (like a settlement) happens between now and then.

Fan support: The Vikings scrimmaged in front of a packed house at Blakeslee Field on Saturday evening -- an estimated crowd of 10,500 fans that Frazier said was an attendance record.

The recruits are coming: The Vikings two new offensive linemen showed up in uniforms at the team’s morning walk-through and were on the sidelines at the evening passing scrimmage. Brought in to fill out the depleted OL (missing four players to injury), Grant Cook and Bridger Buche will be wearing No. 64 and 62, respectively.

Robinson’s return: Third-round pick CB Josh Robinson, who tweaked his hamstring early in camp, participated in the scrimmage on Saturday night. After the morning workout, DC Alan Williams said the team was bringing Robinson along slowly, but on Saturday, the rookie CB saw plenty of live action.

“It was good to see him out here," said coach Leslie Frazier. “He’s missed a lot of time in the short time we have been here. So to see him out there getting his hands on balls is a good sign for us. We are counting on him to be a factor in our secondary, so it was great to have him back running around and participating.”

Surgery for Schwartz: Frazier said that OL Geoff Schwartz would soon have surgery for his sports hernia. Schwartz was back in Mankato attending the passing scrimmage but was watching from the sidelines.

“We are expecting him to have surgery,” said Frazier. “We will know more after the surgery, but generally you can expect at least four weeks.”

Frazier said that OL Chris DeGeare may initially move into the backup role behind Brandon Fusco for the starting right guard spot, but that the team would keep looking for other players to bring in to workout at the position.

Never enough CBs: DC Alan Williams was asked how many CBs he’d like to keep.

“I’d like to keep all of them. You can never have enough good corners, healthy corners, but we will have to see how the make-up of the team goes—which is not just about the defense. Usually you keep around five, sometimes six. We’ll see how that shakes out once everything is done.”
