There are very clearly some people out there looking to stir the old pot when it comes to Colin Kaepernick's situation and his decision to first sit and then kneel during the national anthem.

Lots of people don't like the decision and it has resulted in Kap being a "disliked" player according to some.

At least one reporter believes the backup 49ers quarterback isn't handling himself well after the game by answering questions about his protest, and tried to grill Chip Kelly about it during a press conference this week.

Kelly didn't just handle the situation with aplomb, but he was aggressive in his pursuit of Kap's freedoms to speak the way he wants to speak and to answer the questions he is asked by, you know, reporters.

Video here and a full transcript below:

Here's the full transcript of the exchange:

Q: "How do you feel when he takes over the locker room and he talks about his concerns, which are valid and important. I think specifically about after the Rams win, when you beat the Rams, and he's talking about injustice in America and I believe some of the players were uncomfortable with that.

A: "Well I don't think Colin takes over any room, I think--"

Q: Oh he did after the Rams game.

CK: Well I can give you my opinion on what I think. I think he's asked questions about a subject and he's answering those questions.

CR: He should turn down, he should say 'Talk to me at another time.' I was in the room, were you in the room at the time?

CK: Yeah, I walked by the locker room, I was in the locker room.

CR: Anyway, so we disagree on if he took over the room. Do you think it's appropriate that he should be talking about those things after a win.

CK: Yeah, I do.

CR: OK.

CK: When he's asked a question I think he should answer what his feelings are on those questions. And if you don't believe that's a thing, then maybe you shouldn't ask him those questions.

CR: I didn't ask him those questions.

CK: OK.

CR: But, I, we have a fundamental disagreement then.

CK: Great part-- thing about this country, isn't it?

CR: Absolutely.

CK: Awesome.

Whatever you think about Kaepernick's decision to protest the national anthem, it's inconceivable for anyone to be upset about Kaepernick answering questions after a football game from football reporters.

That's just a guy doing his freaking job.

Kelly has already praised Kaepernick's willingness to speak up about what he called "heinous" things happening in the country. It shouldn't be a surprise he's willing to defend his quarterback from a reporter's bizarre line of questioning, but it's certainly admirable that he fired right back and shut the asinine inquiry down.

It didn't go unnoticed by his players, either.
