Aaron Burbridge: Closing his career
Burbridge was waived by the Broncos on Wednesday and will retire from the NFL, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
Burbridge signed a reserve/future contract with the Broncos in January but will call it a career before the start of spring training. The 25-year-old caught seven passes for 88 yards during his rookie year with the 49ers in 2016, but he hasn't appeared in a game since and spent much of the last two seasons battling hamstring injuries.

Broncos' Aaron Burbridge: Signs with Denver
Burbridge signed a futures contract with Denver on Thursday, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
Burbridge spent time on the 49ers' practice squad in 2018 but didn't appear in any regular-season games. His lone regular-season action came as a rookie in 2016, when he caught seven passes for 88 yards while appearing in all 16 games for San Francisco. He'll look to secure a role as a depth receiver and special teams player for the Broncos in 2019.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan said Burbridge is nursing a hamstring injury and won't be available for the 49ers' preseason finale Thursday against the Chargers, Nick Wagoner of ESPN reports.
Shanahan said it's possible Burbridge could be available for Week 1, suggesting the receiver isn't dealing with a particularly severe hamstring injury. His impending absence Thursday should open up snaps for other depth receivers, such as Richie James and Aldrick Robinson, in what could be their final chance to impress before San Francisco has to trim its roster to 53 players.

Burbridge has emerged as one of the 49ers' top players on special teams, Brad Almquist of KNBR reports.
Burbridge saw over 200 snaps on both offense and special teams as a rookie in 2016, but the receiver then spent the entire 2017 season on injured reserve with a hamstring injury. However, it doesn't seem like his job is in jeopardy, as Burbridge's reportedly good showing in minicamp and OTAs this spring suggests he has an inside track to a roster spot ahead of the 2018 campaign. However, the Niners suddenly have a host of intriguing options at receiver, so Burbidge might not be a great bet to see as many offensive snaps as he did in his first year.

Burbridge caught one pass (two targets) for 23 yards in Sunday's season-finale against the Seahawks.
The rookie wideout was buried on the depth chart for the majority of the season, but he saw more reps in the final weeks of the season once injuries took a toll on the 49ers' receiving corps. The lack of targets (eight over the last three weeks) make it hard to evaluate the 2015 Big Ten Receiver of the Year heading into next season. The 49ers' offseason moves will determine whether or not playing time will be available for Burbridge.
