Louis Murphy: Taking talents outside of NFL
Murphy signed a contract this week with the Orlando Apollos of the Alliance of American Football, Greg Auman of The Athletic reports.
Murphy hasn't officially retired from football, despite failing to secure even a training-camp invite from an NFL team in 2018. A strong showing in the AAF could improve Murphy's odds of resurfacing in the NFL, but at 31 years old, his clock is ticking.

49ers' Louis Murphy: Restarts career in San Francisco
Murphy tallied 121 yards and a touchdown on eight receptions in a reserve role this season.
The seasoned vet had actually missed the 53-man cut after spending training camp with San Francisco, but he was brought back mid-season after Pierre Garcon (neck) was placed on IR. Despite his age (30 years old) and two-year absence from the NFL, the 49ers felt comfortable incorporating Murphy into their regular rotation of receivers over the final seven games of the season. While his usage seemed out of place on a rebuilding franchise, it would be even more surprising if they opted to re-sign Murphy following the emergence of rookie wideouts Trent Taylor and Kendrick Bourne to serve as depth behind Pierre Garcon and Marquise Goodwin.

49ers' Louis Murphy: Plays 33 snaps, gets zero targets
Murphy did not receive a target despite being on the field for 33 offensive snaps in Sunday's 25-23 win against the Titans.
Murphy's snap count was in line with the reps he was receiving over the past four weeks when he emerged as one of the 49ers' secondary targets, but his involvement has dwindled to just two targets over the past two games after seeing six back in Week 12. The shift in attention may have come from higher up as the 4-10 49ers attempt to get a better look at younger options such as Trent Taylor and Kendrick Bourne. The veteran could see a slight uptick in production against the Jaguars next week if Jalen Ramsey shadows Marquise Goodwin, but it would be a stretch to expect a fantasy-relevant day from Murphy, even if Aldrick Robinson (concussion) is unable to suit up.

Murphy logged consecutive limited practices to end the week, but his illness doesn't appear to be anything serious. Murphy missed Wednesday's practices due to an illness, but he appears to be recovering from the issue. The 30-year-old should have time to recover before Sunday's game against the Titans. If he's ultimately unable to suit up, Trent Taylor, Aldrick Robinson and Kendrick Bourne would all benefit from his absence, as they have been sharing snaps.

Murphy should have enough time to recover before Sunday's game against the Titans. Murphy pulled in one of his two targets for 20 yards in Sunday's 26-16 win over Houston.
The 30-year-old continues to be involved for a rebuilding 49ers offense, logging 29 offensive snaps and recording a reception for the fourth consecutive week. Murphy had seen his targets increase on a weekly basis, but his two this week tied a season low. Despite carrying a solid 16.3 average yards per reception, the veteran simply isn't enough of a focal point to be relied upon in fantasy.

49ers' Louis Murphy: Sees six targets Sunday
Murphy was targeted six times but finished with just one catch for 16 yards in Sunday's victory over the Bears.
While his final line was fairly empty, the veteran finished second in targets amongst all his fellow wideouts. Murphy has seen his targets increase incrementally over the past three games and has clearly moved into third on the wide receiver depth chart. The 49ers' passing game gained new life with Jimmy Garoppolo under center, so there's some room for optimism for the once-forgotten receiver given his elevated role in an upward-trending passing game.

49ers' Louis Murphy: Ends three-year TD drought
Murphy had two catches (on four targets) for 14 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 24-13 loss to Seattle.
Murphy made his 49ers debut in the club's previous game against the Giants while filling in for Trent Taylor (ribs). Surprisingly, the veteran stuck around as part of the receiver rotation even with Taylor active Sunday, and he would up finding pay dirt for the first time since 2014. Murphy's four targets ranked third among all San Francisco receiving options, but three of them came during garbage time on the final drive of the game, so we will tread lightly before anointing him a significant part of the offense going forward.

49ers' Louis Murphy: Gains 48 yards
Murphy secured both of his targets for 48 yards in a 31-21 win over the Giants on Sunday.
The veteran wideout saw his first action of the 2017 season, filling in for the injured Trent Taylor (ribs). Murphy did the majority of his damage on a 40-yard catch down the sideline at the start of the second half. The 30-year-old was officially signed earlier in the week, but he was in camp with the 49ers during the preseason. Therefore, he should have enough familiarity with the offense to be called upon if Taylor isn't healed up following the team's upcoming bye week.

The veteran wideout finished with the most snaps among all 49er receivers Saturday with 23. The 30-year-old has dealt with issues on and off the field this past offseason, but with his knee injury and arrest behind him, Murphy will look to compete for a spot on the 53-man roster in San Francisco.

Murphy (knee) joined the 49ers on a one-year deal Monday, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
The 30-year-old wideout will look to revive his career after missing the entire 2016 season with a torn ACL. Murphy was also dealing with off-the-field issues following his April 12 arrest at Tampa International Airport for possession of a concealed weapon. Those charges have since been dropped, freeing the veteran to enter the receiver mix in San Francisco for training camp. Murphy has experienced sporadic success in limited roles throughout his career, but he will have to prove that his knee is fully healthy while attempting to leapfrog several other options on the depth chart to have a shot at making the 49ers' 53-man roster.

Louis Murphy: Gun charge dropped
Murphy (knee ) won't face any charges stemming from his April 12 arrest at Tampa International Airport for possessing a loaded gun, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Shortly after the arrest, Murphy issued an apology indicating that bringing the gun to the airport was an "honest mistake," and the state attorney's office ultimately decided to close the case. The 29-year-old, who sat out all of last season while recovering from a torn ACL, remains an unrestricted free agent.

Louis Murphy: Arrested Wednesday morning
Murphy (knee) was arrested Wednesday on charges of allegedly carrying a concealed weapon into Tampa International Airport, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Murphy is currently a free agent who missed the 2016 season due to an ACL injury suffered in 2015. While it isn't clear if he's recovered at this point in time or still on the mend, Wednesday's incident should only make it more difficult for him to land a new contract ahead of the 2017 campaign.
