If you’ve been hanging around Twitter lately and following the Stanley Cup Playoffs, perhaps you have heard of “Tony X.” The St. Louis-area native took the hockey world by storm when he stumbled upon Game 7 between the St. Louis Blues and Chicago Blackhawks during the first round.

He happened to be looking for the St. Louis Cardinals game, but instead landed on hockey and after 45 seconds decided to keep watching. Then he started live tweeting the thing and the results were comically genuine. Some of the tweets were endearingly profane, confused and other times, dead on.

Suddenly Tony X (Twitter handle: @soIoucity) started picking up a lot of retweets. The one that caught him a lot of attention was, “White people been hiding hockey from us for years bruh. This s--- is lit.”

That has been retweeted nearly 38,000 times as of Tuesday night.

Other samplings from the evening:

In the following days, Tony X became an internet sensation. His follower count rose from just over 1,600 to over 92,000 as of Tuesday night. Look at how quick it grew over the first few days (via Twitter Canada):

Watching someone become a hockey fan before your very eyes was something that really resonated with NHL and maybe even general sports fans across social media. Suddeny, Tony X was the most popular hockey fan in the world it seemed.

He started picking up famous hockey followers like Florida Panthers goalie and expert tweeterRoberto Luongo, who had a particularly funny interaction with the new fanVladimir Tarasenko, the Blues’ goal-scoring star hooked Tony up with a No. 91 jersey.

Within a few days, Tony was on Good Morning America to tell his story of becoming an overnight internet celebrity. They wanted to know all about his experience and then surprised him with Brett Hull, former Blues star and current team ambassador, inviting him to his very first hockey game.

He was excited to have the chance, but he wasn’t quite sure how to dress:

With the Blues at home for the first time since he became a fan, Tony X was in the building Tuesday night for Game 3 between the Blues and the Dallas Stars. And did he ever get an experience.

Not only did the Blues pick up a massive win for their newest fan, he got to see it from some of the best seats in the house.

And his follower count just keeps growing. It’s a strange, meteoric rise for a man who just wanted to watch the Cardinals play some ball. How could he have known what was to come?

The internet can be such a strange and wonderful place some times.

Welcome aboard, Tony X. Wait ‘til you get a load of 3-on-3 overtime. It’s lit.
