MALIBU, Calif. (AP) Evan Bradds scored 24 points and had 11 rebounds and Taylor Barnette finished with 20 points as Belmont defeated Pepperdine 85-77 Saturday night.

The Bruins (3-3) raced to a 20-5 lead on Bradds' layup with 14:57 to play. Another layup pushed the margin to 33-10 before the Waves cut into the deficit, outscoring Belmont 24-14 in the final nine minutes.

Belmont led 47-34 at halftime.

Austin Lake hit a 3 to put Belmont up 55-42. Lamond Murray Jr. hit a jumper to cap a 13-6 run for the Waves and make it 61-55, but Belmont used a 10-3 run to make it a 13-point game again.

Murray Jr. and Jeremy Major each tallied 21 points with six rebounds for Pepperdine (4-4). Major also passed out six assists, and Chris Reyes added 14 points and eight rebounds.

The game was the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
