Barrett has been diagnosed with shoulder inflammation, Joseph Jacquez of Venom Strikes reports.

Barrett underwent an MRI, which revealed that his shoulder had no structural damage. The Diamondbacks have yet to establish a timeframe for his return. Rather, they're progressively increasing his throwing activity and working to regain his strength. Once healthy, Barrett is expected to take on a setup role out of Arizona's bullpen and improve on a 2016 rookie campaign that saw him post a 3.49 ERA and 1.26 WHIP over 68 games (59.1 innings).
