Jenkins was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Monday.

Jenkins was fantastic in Triple-A for the Braves in 2016 (2.47 ERA over 17 games), but he struggled upon promotion to the majors. As he still had options remaining, the Padres had little reason not to claim him off waivers and give him a shot at making the club out of spring training. The big question will be whether he can ever figure out his control -- Jenkins walked 33 batters in just 52 MLB innings last season, and no matter how many ground balls or strikeouts he induces, that 5.7 BB/9 just won't play.
