Adams was outrighted to Triple-A Omaha on Friday.
Adams made six relief appearances during his first season with the Royals in 2020, but he was inefficient once again, allowing nine earned runs on 15 hits and no walks while striking out six over 8.2 innings. He'll be cast off the 40-man roster to make room for several prospects who will be protected from the Rule 5 draft.
