The Royals granted McBroom his unconditional release Monday.
McBroom was a candidate to be removed from the Royals' 40-man roster this offseason, and rather than waiting for the organization to make a decision on his status, the 29-year-old is apparently intent on exploring playing opportunities in Asia. He's spent parts of the last three seasons in the majors, accruing a .268/.322/.427 slash line (99 wRC+) in 177 plate appearances.
