Alex Smith is always going to be one of those players who is better for his team than Fantasy owners. While he has been a top 15 Fantasy quarterback in two of the four years he's been the starter for the Chiefs, he's never going to be used as a No. 1 option in the majority of leagues. However, he's led Kansas City to a 41-20 record over four seasons, with three trips to the playoffs, and now he could be fighting for his job after the Chiefs traded up to No. 10 overall in this year's NFL Draft to select Patrick Mahomes from Texas Tech. We still expect Smith to be the starter this season, but he's now looking over his shoulder at a prized rookie on the bench. In 2016, Smith completed 67.1 percent of his passes for 3,502 yards, 15 touchdowns and eight interceptions and ran for 134 yards and five touchdowns. It's the fewest touchdown passes and rushing yards he's had in Kansas City, but it's also the most rushing touchdowns he's had in his career. He did have six games with at least 20 Fantasy points in a standard league last year, along with nine = with 16 points or less. We'll see if another year with Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill help Smith improve, but the sample size should be big enough to tell you he's just a low-end No. 2 Fantasy quarterback at best, especially with Jeremy Maclin (Baltimore) now gone. Smith is only worth drafting in two-quarterback leagues this year, and don't be surprised if he loses his job if Mahomes is ready and Smith struggles at some point during the season.
