The Bills defense lost three key contributors in the offseason with Zach Brown (Washington) and Stephon Gilmore (New England) leaving as free agents and Ronald Darby traded to Philadelphia. Buffalo also released safeties Corey Graham and Aaron Williams, replacing them with free agents Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer. Buffalo also hopes to get a big contribution from 2016 first-round pick Shaq Lawson, who struggled as a rookie with a shoulder injury, and they still have capable defensive linemen in Lorenzo Alexander, Jerry Hughes, Marcell Dareus and Kyle Williams. In the NFL Draft, the Bills tried to replace Gilmore with first-round rookie Tre'Davious White from LSU, and they are hoping he can be a playmaker right away. The Bills DST should improve under new coach Sean McDermott, who was the former defensive coordinator in Carolina, but we don't recommend drafting this unit in the majority of leagues. At best, they can be a streaming option and a unit to add off waivers during the season, especially in Week 1 with their matchup against the Jets.
