Coyle (concussion) was placed on injured reserve Wednesday, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Coyle suffered the concussion during Week 1's matchup against the Vikings, when he started in place of Malcolm Smith (hamstring). With Coyle relegated to IR, the 49ers will rely on Fred Warner as their starting middle linebacker versus the Lions on Sunday.
