Mets starter Jacob deGrom wasn't an All-Star this season, but he's sure pitching like one of late. Heading into Sunday, he had a 2.25 ERA in his last eight starts and then threw an utter gem in a 5-0 win over the Phillies.

The final line: 9 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 7 K

The lone hit came with two outs in the bottom of the third inning on a grounder up the middle (MLB.com video). As if that isn't hard enough to swallow on the "holy cow that was close to a no-hitter" front, there's the fact that the hit was recorded by Phillies starter Zach Elfin.

This was the first time a pitcher threw a one-hit shutout with the pitcher getting the only hit since it happened to Matt Cain (with James McDonald recording the hit) in 2012, per ESPN via Elias Sports Bureau.

The Mets took two of three from the Phillies and remain tied with the Marlins for the second NL wild card spot.
