If the Rockies look outside the organization to replace former manager Jim Tracy, who resigned Sunday, Sandy Alomar, Brad Ausmus and Tim Wallach are top candidates, Troy Renck of the Denver Post reported Wednesday.
Alomar was a frontrunner for the Cleveland managerial post before Terry Francona claimed the position. Ausmus was believed to be on the Houston Astros' short list before they tabbed Nationals third base coach Bo Porter. Wallach is the current third base coach for the Los Angeles Dodgers. None have full-time MLB managerial experience, although Alomar served as Indians interim manager this season.
This trio who might be considered is in addition to internal candidates, including bench coach Tom Runnells, Triple-A manager Stu Cole and first baseman Jason Giambi, whose name remains in the conversation.
