Tigers' Drake Britton: Suspended 50 games for amphetamines
Britton was suspended 50 games Tuesday after testing positive for amphetamines, Katie Strang of ESPN reports.
Britton had been having a down year for Triple-A Toledo, pitching to a 4.57 ERA and 1.55 WHIP over 41.1 innings and will now likely be shelved for nearly the rest of the season as he serves his suspension. At only 27 years old, he still has plenty of time to establish himself as a major leaguer, but he'll now have to live down having a drug violation on his resume.

Tigers' Drake Britton: Pitches on Tuesday
Britton threw a scoreless third of an inning Tuesday during his first appearance in the minors this season.
The 26-year-old gave up two earned runs in 3.2 innings during spring training, and was sent to Triple-A Toledo to start the season. Britton has not pitched in the majors since 2014 with the Red Sox where he threw 6.2 scoreless innings in seven appearances. He spent last season with the Cubs organization at Triple-A Iowa, working 83.1 innings with a 5.08 ERA. Britton has struggled during his career in the minors and will most likely spend all of 2016 in Toledo.

Tigers' Drake Britton: Inks minor league deal with Tigers
Britton signed a minor league contract with the Tigers on Friday.
Britton spent the 2015 season in the Cubs' organization at Triple-A Iowa, where he worked a 5.08 ERA with 45 strikeouts and 33 walks over 83.1 innings. The left-hander profiles as a reliever at the big league level, but he has not pitched in the majors since 2014 when he was with the Red Sox. According to the Tigers' official website, Britton has received an invite to spring training.
