Here are some Arizona Cardinals news and notes:

  • The Cardinals continued tinkering with their roster on Wednesday, as LB Jamaal Westerman and Pat McQuistan were added to the squad, Josh Weinfuss of AZCardinals.com reported. McQuistan adds depth to an offensive line reeling from the loss of yet another tackle, as T Jeremy Bridges tore a ligament in his thumb and was added to the injured reserve list. McQuistan will serve as a backup across the line, as Weinfuss described, while Westerman will play a hybrid linebacker/defensive end role.

  • Seattle QB Russell Wilson, one of the surprise hits to come out of the NFL preseason, drew praise from Arizona coach Ken Whisenhunt. Whisenhunt told Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic that he interviewed Wilson, who starred at Wisconsin and NC State, at the NFL Combine and that the Seahawks starter was a "smart young man."

  • Patrick Peterson is in the market for even more instant returns this season. The Cardinals' second-year cornerback slow-played his returner's hand during the preseason as the coaching staff wanted him to be healthy for the season, Darren Urban of AZCardinals.com reported. Peterson averaged 15.9 yards per punt return as a rookie with four touchdowns, with his season culminating in a trip to the Pro Bowl.
